Kawaguchiko Fugaku Wind Cave & Narusawa Ice Cave" A unique experience of seeing icicles in hot summer!

by Ryu_C@RakuRakuJP

The best cool spot to visit in hot summer

When sightseeing in Mt. Fuji and Kawaguchiko area, it is not necessarily only Mt. Fuji that can be seen. Because there are many different types of scenic spots in the whole area, such as Fuyue Wind Cave and Narusawa Ice Cave, which are some very rare experiences.

Because Fuyue Wind Cave and Narusawa Ice Cave are special places, you can see the naturally formed ice most of the time. Even if the outdoor temperature is as high as 30 degrees, as long as you walk into Fugake Wind Cave and Narusawa Ice Cave, you can see icicles that will not melt in summer.

Maybe you will wonder why the ice cubes don’t melt in summer. Are those ice cubes moved from the freezer every night by the staff, and then open the Fuyue Wind Cave and Narusawa Ice Cave for you to visit? In fact, because Fugaku Wind Cave and Narusawa Ice Cave have unique environments and structures, these ice cubes are formed naturally, rather than being carried by staff every day.

Locations of Fugaku Wind Cave and Narusawa Ice Cave

Fuyue Wind Cave and Narusawa Ice Cave are scenic spots located in the sea of trees in Aokigahara, which is a place surrounded by forests and natural environments. If you came to the Mt. Fuji area this time to experience Mt. Fuji and the natural scenery, the Fuyue Wind Cave and the Narusawa Ice Cave are more worthy of your visit than the scenic spots near Lake Kawaguchi.

Although starting from Kawaguchiko Station, you have to take the Kawaguchiko Tour Bus for about 30 minutes to reach Fuyue Wind Cave and Narusawa Ice Cave. However, as long as you have watched the following videos, I believe that the scenery of the entire Aokigahara Sea of Trees will make you think it is worth visiting.

Features of Fuyue Fengxue

Fuyue Wind Cave is a 201-meter-long cave, where the usual temperature is only 3 degrees. In the past, it was a natural refrigerator for storing silkworm chrysalis, but it was abandoned in the Showa period, and finally evolved into a tourist attraction.

It is said that because the basalt of the walls inside the Fugaku Wind Cave has the characteristics of absorbing sound, unlike ordinary caves, it is not easy to hear any echo in the Fugaku Wind Cave. You can pay more attention to this when visiting.

In addition, there is a chance to see icicles in Fuyue Fengxue in summer, and now when you visit Fuyue Fengxue, you can also see the way people used to store silkworm cocoons and seeds in Fuyue Fengxue.

Features of Narusawa Ice Cave

The characteristic of Narusawa Ice Cave is that, like Fuyue Wind Cave, it used to be a place to store silkworm cocoons and seeds. However, it is easier to see ice cubes in Narusawa Ice Cave, and the experience of ice cubes is a bit bigger.

Narusawa Ice Cave is a 150-meter-long cave with an average temperature of 3 degrees. If you visit the Narusawa Ice Cave in April, you will have the chance to see icicles with a diameter of 50cm and a height of 3 meters. Also because these icicles are formed naturally, they are very precious.

Since Fugaku Wind Cave, Narusawa Ice Cave and Kawaguchiko Station are all a little far away, and there are no other scenic spots around, it is not suitable for some tourists who take a day trip to Mt. Fuji. The main reason is that you will spend a lot of time on transportation.
